TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - the Ministry of State-owned Enterprises officially appointed three new figures to become commissioners in state-owned energy company Pertamina. Besides Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, another figure who seized the spotlight is a three-star policeman, Comr. Gen. Condro Kirono.
SOEs Ministry’s special staffer Arya Sinulingga said Condro’s appointment into Pertamina’s board of commissioners was not due to the government’s intent to “clean up” issues that are plaguing the SOE.
“It’s not because we detected something, but it’s to make Pertamina even better,” said Arya after Pertamina’s general shareholders' meeting (RUPS) in Central Jakarta on November 25.
However, Arya admitted that Condro’s appointment was meant to “eliminate frauds” in Pertamina’s main structure, including the alleged existence of oil and gas mafias.
“Any form of fraud are our concern [especially] in order to reduce the firm’s losses,” said Arya.
By appointing Condro Kirono, Arya said the government aspired to not only detect problems but also find solutions that would later help fix the system. “Police members have the ability to conduct stringent monitoring and know how to make plans for a cleaner Pertamina,” said Arya.
Among many positions he took prior to his appointment in Pertamina, Condro Kirono was most notably the Central Java Police Chief (2016) and the Chief of the National Police’s Traffic Corps (2014).
