TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Jakarta Transportation Agency started to mobilize officers with bicycles to clear designated bicycle lanes from other road users today, November 25. This followed the implementation of the regulation on bike lanes in the capital.
“We will daily deploy four officers with bicycles to patrol roads specifically set for cyclists,” said the agency’s unit of traffic head Andreas Eman in Jakarta, Sunday, November 24.
Eman explained the officers will be deployed on Jalan Pemuda, Jalan Pramuka, and Matraman, which have been equipped with the facility. The use of bicycles was aimed at easing the patrol during traffic density.
According to him, the officers who are mostly females are also tasked to disseminate the regulation.
“They will proactively issue a ticket to violators,” Eman added, adding that violators riding car will be subjected to a fine of up to Rp500,000, and Rp250,000 for motorcyclists at maximum.
Eman said the sanction was based on Article 284 of Law No. 22/2009 on Traffic and Land Transportation.
