TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transportation Agency reminded public transports, either conventional or app-based, to not drop off passengers over the newly established bicycle lanes. This warning is also directed to any motorized vehicles.
Head of the agency, Syafrin Liputo said that the upcoming Governor’s Decree will see vehicles caught traveling over bike lanes get an immediate traffic ticket.
“Vehicles are not allowed to operate over bicycle lanes,” said Syafrin on Tuesday, November 19.
In its current condition, the law overseeing the operations of bicycle lanes is being signed and is set to be introduced.
He explained that police personnel will be granted the authority to ticket violators under Article 284 of Law No.22/2009 with a maximum fine up to Rp500,000 for not adhering to the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians. This law will also oversee those who park their vehicles on bike lanes.
Jakarta administration is eyeing to completely establish permanent bicycle lanes in the capital city on November 19, 2019.
