TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has called for a routinely Interfaith Walk in every province to promote harmony among followers of existing religions in Indonesia.
He also specifically asked for organization of Interfaith Walk in Indonesia's eastern most province of Papua.
"I want this event to be organized in every province. And I also want a special event for Papua to unite all Papua people and develop peaceful Papua," Amin said after joining the first Interfaith Walk on MH Thamrin Boulevard, in Central Jakarta, on Sunday.
Interfaith harmony is the main element for the promotion of national harmony, he said.
"This (Interfaith Walk) is an excellent effort to promote harmony and the national integrity, particularly among religious believers," the Vice President said.
He believed that the interfaith fun walk would strengthen the national unity and prevent any disunity attempt.
The Interfaith Walk is initiated and organized for the first time by the Nasaruddin Umar Office (NUO) headed by prominent Islamic scholar Nasaruddin Umar, the Grand Imam of Istiqlal Grand Mosque.
Umar said the Interfaith Walk would be organized annually in every province and district capitals across Indonesia.
"Insya Allah (God Willing), we can find something that can unite this nation. Insya Allah, Interfaith Walk can be implemented annually in every provincial and district capitals. Indeed the view that we have created today is very beautiful. This is the first Interfaith Walk in Indonesia," Nasaruddin Umar remarked.
