TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) identified that 86 neighboring areas (RW) in 25 sub-districts across the capital are prone to flooding. The agency head Subejo said the provincial administration had conducted mitigation efforts.
"We obtain the data based on the analysis conducted for the last three years, measuring the height and duration of floods," said Subejo at the City Hall, Thursday, November 14.
He explained that the mitigation efforts were done in the form of structural and nonstructural activities, such as dredging dams, river, and swamp, as well as training officers and preparing heavy equipment.
“Rainy season is forecasted to arrive in the second dasarian of December. We have prepped anticipative measures,” he added. Dasarian refers to a 10 day period of the month.
As for the nonstructural mitigation effort, the agency established dissemination and disaster simulation assistance to residents when dealing with water inundation. “We also ensure that the early warning system is functioned properly to spread accurate information to the public,” Subejo said, adding that the early warning will be distributed through a text message.
“Hopefully, the flooding will not be devastating, but we are ready to face the worst condition.”
