TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a meeting with commissioners of the General Election Commission (KPU) at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, November 11. During the session, KPU chairman Arief Budiman submitted the report of election implementation.
“As stipulated in Law No. 7/2017, KPU is obliged to submit the report of election implementation to President and DPR (House of Representatives),” said Arief.
Arief explained he discussed three issues with the President, namely the 2019 legislative and presidential election, the implementation of the 2020 simultaneous regional head election, and the institutional governance of KPU.
In light of this year’s legislative and presidential election, Arief reported that the number of female candidates had increased from the election in 2004 to 2019.
“The number of elected candidates for the DPR and the DPD also raised from 131 to 162 people,” he added.
Additionally, the number of the election participants in 2019 increased significantly to 82 percent, compared to the last election in 2014 at 75 percent. “So it raised by 7 percent, and this exceeded the national target at 77.5 percent,” Arief outlined.
