Minister Expects Emergence of Three Decacorns in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate wants to support the development of startups by opening big opportunity in hope of the emergence of new decacorns in Indonesia.

Decacorn is a term for a relatively new company that is worth at least US$10 billion. Indonesia currently has 1 decacorn, Gojek.

“What's the purpose of providing support? To increase the number of unicorn and decacorn. Not only one; two or three if possible. The market potential is big," Johnny said as quoted by Bisnis.com, Saturday, November 9.

Through the 1,000 startups movement, the minister said, his office will support and open a wide opportunity to drive the emergence of new startups.

Johnny will facilitate startups to develop. “[...] We have to be quick, how? [by doing] deregulation, reducing the bureaucracy process," he added.
