TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said that Prophet Muhammad is a role model because he was able to change society for the better.
"[He] changed the people from prioritizing self-interest into common interests," Widodo said on his Instagram post in the commemoration of Prophet Mohammad's birthday, Saturday, November 9.
The President, therefore, said that Prophet Muhammad is a role model who is worth to follow by the people especially in the context of developing Indonesia into a better country.
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin seconded the president's statement. The inactive chairman of Ulema Council said that Prophet Muhammad, in changing the bad habit of the people, put forward to conduct a humanistic approach.
"The prophet did change the society through their morals, way of thinking, and behavior," he said at the state palace last night, Nov. 8.
Ma'ruf went on to say that the government wants to emulate the prophet's spirit of change in developing Indonesia. Therefore, he said, the government is prioritizing the development of human resources.
"We want to develop the society into healthy, smart, productive, and competitive people with good morals."
