ST Burhanuddin to Review Regional Policies Hindering Investment

TEMPO.CO, JakartaAttorney General ST Burhanuddin said he would study all regional regulations that were considered hindering investment.

“This is the president’s order. We will review regional regulations that are deemed to obstruct [investment],” said the Attorney General in his office, South Jakarta, Friday, November 8.

The regulation review was one of Burhanuddin’s work focuses in the next five years of his administration. He described his programs before all leaders and members of the House of Representatives (DPR) on November 7.

“I have instructed all chiefs of high prosecutor's offices to monitor such regulations,” said Burhanuddin during the first work meeting at the DPR-MPR Building, Senayan, South Jakarta.

In addition, ST Burhanuddin expected that case management should not stop at convicting perpetrators and charging fines to return state losses, but the Attorney General's Office must also provide solutions to improving the system so as to prevent recurrences.

He added that his side would strive to secure abandoned assets of regional governments, SOEs, and region-owned enterprises.

The Attorney General's Office will also adopt information technology to help ensure the success of a task, such as by developing applications of system management in the fields of general crimes, special crimes, state administration affairs, and monitoring as one of the requirements of bureaucratic reform.

ST Burhanuddin was also determined to create a tight monitoring mechanism to maintain consistency in the implementation of an integrity zone that marched towards a corruption-free zone. The complaint and handling system will also be developed in a bid to improve legal services.
