Nadiem Makarim Appalled by Primary School Ceiling Collapse

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Nadiem Makarim paid a visit to the SDN Gentong state primary school located in Pasuruan City, East Java, after the school’s ceiling partially collapsed. Two were, unfortunately, died in this incident with 11 students left injured.
“It is a sad day for me personally. I saw the four classes that had collapsed ceilings. There were two victims; one teacher and one student. I want to convey my deepest condolences,” said Nadiem during his visit to the school on Thursday, Nov. 7.
He then urged for better cooperation between central and regional governments to assure that this tragedy does not reoccur in the future.
“This is something I cannot accept. Everyone must work hand-in-hand to assure that this never happens again,” said the minister.
Nadiem Makarim announced that he has sent his team from the inspectorate general to investigate the incident. One teacher and a student were unfortunately killed in the ceiling collapse incident on Tuesday, November 5, at 08:30 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
