TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One of Indonesia’s motorcycle racer, Andi Farid Izdihar or Andi Gilang, will officially be riding for the Idemitsu Honda Team Asia Moto2 team in the 2020 season.
The promotion of the 22-year old racer to the world Moto2 championship was announced by Honda Team Asia on Tuesday. Reports also suggest that this will effectively replace Dimas Ekky Pratama who currently rides for the team in the 2019 season.
The winner of Asia Talent Cup’s 2015 Qatar GP will be paired with Thailand’s Somkiat Chantra. Both of them will be riding on Kalex machinery. Andi had the opportunity to replace Dimas Ekky in the San Marino GP back in September.
“Alhamdullilah, thank you to Astra Honda, Honda Motor, and Honda Team Asia for the opportunity and the challenge. I will definitely do my best,” said Andi in his Instagram account.
Andi Gilang is one of the Indonesian riders who graduated from Honda’s young talent coaching platform, Astra Honda Racing School (AHRS). Another Indonesian racer that is currently competing in the world stage that graduated from the same place is Gerry Salim.
