BPS Data Shows Decrease in Foreign Tourists Visit in Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a decrease in the number of foreign tourists visit to Jakarta from 253,176 tourists in August, to 212,912 tourists in September 2019.

According BPS records, the numbers were already decreasing compared to July 2019, which recorded 268,258 foreign tourists visit.

"Five countries continues to dominate the visit, which are China, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea," said Chief of Jakarta BPS Buyung Airlangga on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

Buyung said that foreign tourists enter Jakarta from two main entry point, which are the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport. On September 2019, each airport contributes 212,727 and 185 visits, respectively.

Separately, Chief of the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency Edy Junaedi had recently resigned from his position as of October 31, 2019. Edy resigned in the midst of the Jakarta 2020 Regional Budget scandal.

In addition to lower foreign tourist visits, Edy also left a number of activity programs which budget are yet to be absorbed until November 2019. Until November 2019, the absorption of Regional Budget absorption of the Tourism and Culture Agency had only reached IDR 308.3 billion out of the total IDR 560.4 billion, which is equal to 55 percent.
