TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transportation Agency will accelerate the construction of permanent bike lane prior to the upcoming enforcement of the bike lane regulation on November 20, 2019.
"Until November, it will be permanent," said Chief of the Jakarta Transportation Agency Syafrin on Saturday, November 2, 2019, concerning the construction of bike lanes.
Syafrin said that the bike lane will be constructed in a number of models. The first model will be a bike lane equipped with road dividers, and a model which only indicated by road marks and paints.
Syafrin said that once bike lanes have been made permanent, the Transportation Agency will take firm action against any road users who violated bike lanes. Syafrin said that the sanction, pursuant to Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic, will be in the form of an IDR 500,000 fine or two months imprisonment.
Syafrin admitted that currently there are still road users who violated the bike lane. Nevertheless, he reminded the public to comply with prevailing regulations once bike lane has been made permanent.
