TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has determined the Jakarta Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) at a level of IDR 4.2 million, which is lower compared to IDR 4.6 million demanded by laborers. However, the Jakarta government guaranteed that facilities will be available for laborers.
"Today, I informaed that the Jakarta's UMP for 2020 is IDR 4,276,349.906 or 8.51 percent higher compared to the previous year. Although it is lower than laborers' suggestion, the Jakarta Provincial Government always try to make policies on welfare improvement through collaboration with trade unions," Anies said on Friday, November 1, 2019.
Anies explained that alternatives to wage increase in relation to welfare improvement are available in the form of Jakarta Laborers Card, Laborers Cooperatives Booth, and the Integrated Entrepreneur Development program.
In the Laborers Cooperatives Booth, and the Integrated Entrepreneur Development program, the Jakarta Provincial Government will attempt to collaborate with businesses and the public to improve Jakarta economy.
Chief of the Jakarta Manpower and Transmigration Agency Andri Yansyah said that two Laborers Cooperatives Booth have been opened in East Jakarta and more will continue to be developed.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Entrepreneur Development program is intended to develop business skills and independence through a development and training program to increase laborers' entrepreneurship capacity through trainings.
The development and training program includes driving school to obtain a driver's license, security training, salon training, and cooking training, which will be supported with the provision of entrepreneurship facilities and infrastructures, network building and establishment of joint market.
"In the future, we hoped that there will be synergy between the government and the public in achieving laborer welfare program so it can be beneficial and right on target and we can achieve 'Maju Kotanya Bahagia Warganya'," Andri Yansyah said.
Furthermore, the Jakarta Laborers Card is the Jakarta Government policy in an attempt to improve laborers' welfare by applying low cost for transportation, food, and education for laborers with other added benefits.
The Jakarta Laborers Card will allow its holder to have a free ride on 13 Transjakarta corridors, and serve as membership for the 'Jakgrosir, which will allow Jakarta Laborers Card holder to buy staple foods cheaply.
