  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Human rights activist Haris Azhar predicted that the acid attack case against senior investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan will never be revealed during President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's government. Haris suspected that Jokowi has a certain interest to keep the case unresolved.

Haris predicted that the mastermind behind the attack is an influential figure. "[Jokowi] has an interest to keep the case unresolved, the mastermind appears to be 'all high',"said on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

Instead of arresting the perpetrator, Haris suspected that Jokowi will continue to extend the work period of the police team investigating the case to buy more time. "This will continue to be extended until the end of his Presidential term," Haris said.

Jokowi once again give the Police until December 2019 to resolve the case. Whereas, Jokowi had provided a three month deadline for the technical team formed by the Police to arrest the perpetrator of the attack.

The work period of the team ended on October 31, 2019. The Police claimed that they have made significant discoveries. However, no suspect were announced to the public.

Previously, the Police had also established the Fact Finding Joint Task Force for Novel's case. The team work period started on January 2019 until July 2019. The team however, cannot reveal the perpetrator or the mastermind of the attack against Novel.
