Jakarta Requests Rp2.11tn Budget to Rebuild 86 Schools

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Province Education Office has submitted a proposed budget of Rp2.11 trillion to rebuild 86 schools in 2020. The Office believes that the 86 school buildings were no longer adequate for activities and are in danger of collapsing.
The 86 schools including kindergarten, elementary, junior high and high schools located in a number of areas of the capital city.
"So, for the total budget to is Rp2.11 trillion to rehabilitate 86 schools next year," the Education Office chief Saefuloh said in front of the Jakarta DPRD's Commission B, Thursday, October 31.
Saefuloh said the schools would be demolished first and then rebuilt.
In addition to rebuilding the 86 school complexes, Saefuloh said the Office also plans to make minor restorations and makeovers to 120 more schools, with a budget of Rp299 billion.
"The rehabilitation budget differs between one school with another, depending on the area and size of each school," Saefuloh said.
