TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 struck Pangandaran Regency, West Java and its surrounding areas on Thursday morning, October 31. The earthquake hit the popular tourist destination precisely at 08:56:12 West Indonesia Time.
According to the analysis of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), that earthquake's center was at a distance of 64 kilometers southwest of Pangandaran Regency with a depth of 25 kilometers under the sea.
"Based on the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, it appears that the earthquake was a shallow one caused by activities in the Eurasian Plate intraslab," BBMKG Region II Tangerang Hendro Nugroho said on Thursday.
So far, there has been no damage report and no tsunami warnings had been issued.
"At the time of this report was made at 09:25, the BMKG's monitoring results showed no aftershocks. We urge the people to remain calm and keep up with further information from the BMKG as we will continue to monitor the development of the earthquake," Hendro said.
