TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Agraria and Spatial Planning, Surya Tjandra, stated that he has prepared a number of strategies upon conducting his ministry’s task. Surya claimed he had been mandated specifically by the president to assist the Agraria and Spatial Planning Minister Sofjan Djalil.
“The first task from Pak Jokowi is to specifically assist the Minister in solving cases of agrarian conflict,” said Surya in a press conference on Tuesday, October 29.
The first thing he plans to execute is to map out the entire agrarian conflicts nationwide as he is also specifically tasked to digitize the ministry’s records by utilizing a big data system to improve the ministry’s public services.
Surya also announced that he will make use of his past experience as an activist in a legal aid that directly interacts with members of the public.
“As a deputy minister, I do not mind personally arriving and staying the night in areas of conflict to conjure up solutions,” he said.
Surya is a PSI politician who worked as a university lecturer in the past and studied his master's degree at the University of Warwick in England and his doctorate at Leiden University in the Netherlands. The alumni of the University of Indonesia’s law faculty maintained that he will try to provide people with legal certainty.
