TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) was set to gradually open the fifth-generation cellular network technology or 5G network.
“We hang our ambitions above the sky. Yes, we do want 5G, but several areas of our sovereignty still serve 2G, 3G, and 4G that we must improve first,” said Minister Johnny G. Plate at his office, Jakarta, Monday, Oct. 28.
Director-General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology (SDPPI) Ismail shared the same statement. He said that Indonesia was currently preparing the ecosystem for the network.
“So later when we launch 5G network, especially its frequency spectrum, we can be the host by preparing useful applications for the industry and public’s interests.
Ismail also stressed that preparing the infrastructure of the latest cellular network required sustainability and supports from all parties in the industry.
“Operators can prepare the 4G network as well as possible. This is actually the basic to deliver 5G network later,” Ismail remarked, reasoning that the core network of 4G usage would be used for the needs of the 5G network.
“So, the 5G network will penetrate to Indonesia in time, without hurry and delay,” Ismail said.
