TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Transport Society (MTI) responded to Budi Karya reprising the role of the Transportation Minister for President Jokowi’s second term presidency. MTI’s head advocate Djoko Setijowarno urged Budi to complete his homework in developing the bus rapid transit (BRT) across 34 cities.
“Budi Karya’s homework is to develop BRT across 34 cities and its supporting facilities. The regions include Medan, Pekanbaru, Batam, Padang, Palembang, Bandung, Jakarta, Bogor, and many more,” said Djoko in a text message to Tempo on Tuesday.
Djoko revealed that BRT development is one of the programs included in the Transportation Ministry’s strategic plans of the 2014-2019 term. The government named it as its main focus work for public transportation five years ago.
He also reminded Budi Karya on his commitment to developing national connectivity to create balance in the nation’s development. He says there are at least 10 goals that need to be achieved by the Ministry in the next five years.
Budi Karya was summoned by President Jokowi on Tuesday and revealed that he had been appointed again to fill the position as Transportation Minister.
