TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) Head, Hammam Riza, said that his agency seeks to master technology in the field of artificial intelligence or AI by building an AI Innovation Center.
Hammam expected the center would further enhance the technological support for all institutions and affirmed that his side is ready to form cooperation on the implementation of AI in various sectors.
“The AI center has entered the completion stage. We must optimize the advance of AI technology for the acceleration and efficiency of national development," said Hammam after the meeting with the Indonesia AI Acceleration Advisory Board in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 16.
According to him, AI technology could be used in various sectors, ranging from agriculture, pharmaceuticals, military, to disaster mitigation.
The BPPT head also hoped the use of modest technology could boost the national economy. He mentioned that developed countries have adopted AI to develop medicines and even explored their oil and gas sectors.
"Pharmaceutical companies in advanced countries have started to partner with AI developers for their research. Even Google and Facebook do so," Hammam said.
When asked about the rumor of AI that would beat human’s roles, Hammam asserted that it was not entirely true. “The technology of artificial intelligence does not replace humans in the employment side, but it will help, facilitate, and improve the job performance,” he concluded.
