TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla openly said that he is not concerned by the growing support currently building in President Jokowi’s political party coalition circle. The VP is assured that the government will run in a balanced manner as the country’s opposition parties will remain strong.
“An effective government must have its check and balance. So, no matter how insignificant it is, check and balance will persist,” said Kalla at the Indonesia Islamic International University in Depok today, Oct. 15.
As of now, known opposition party Gerindra has shown the tendency to maneuver toward the government in power as its chairman, Prabowo Subianto, has met with President Jokowi at the State Palace. This was followed by Democrat Party’s Chairman Surya Paloh and PKB’s Muhaimin Iskandar meeting the president.
Gerindra’s approach toward the government only leaves the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) as the sole opposition party, especially after the Democrat Party and National Mandate Party (PAN), that used to be opposition parties, had been approached by the government.
“It does not mean that PKS is [the only opposition]. Just wait for further updates. I do not wish to comment further about the coalition as I am not inside it,” said VP Jusuf Kalla.
