President Jokowi Inaugurates Palapa Ring

  • TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has inaugurated the complete infrastructure of telecommunications networks, Palapa Ring, by signing the digital inscription.

    “The government commits to complete Palapa Ring as our sky toll,” said the President during the inauguration ceremony at State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, Oct. 14.

    According to him, the construction of the broadband network is expected to not only boost the economic sector but also social, cultural, and politics throughout the country.

    He reiterates that this communication connectivity will unite Indonesia from the country’s westernmost city of Sabang to the easternmost city of Merauke and the northernmost island of Miangas to southernmost Rote Island.

    “We must use this connectivity for the welfare and advances of the nation to strengthen our unity, brotherhood among us, and education, as well as facilitate the distribution of knowledge throughout the archipelago,” Jokowi remarked.

    To test the network speed, a video conference is held during the inauguration with several regional administrations in Ba’a Rote Ndao, Sabang, Penajam Paser Utara, Merauke, and Sorong.

    State officials attended the event were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Agung, Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara, National Development Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, Health Minister Nila Moeloek.

    Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto, Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, State Intelligence Agency (BIN) head Budi Gunawan, the House speaker Puan Maharani, DPD speaker La Nyalla Mattalitti, and Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) head Triawan Munaf also presented in the inauguration of Palapa Ring.
