Jakarta Forms Waste Evacuation Task Force ahead of Rainy Season

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Water Body Management Unit at the Environment Agency formed a task force of waste evacuation that will be tasked to stand guard at several rivers ahead of the rainy season.
“Their standby points are at rivers which quite affected by the accumulation of waste during rainfalls,” said the management unit’s spokesman Efron Firdaus, Sunday, Oct. 13.
During the last heavy rains in Bogor, Oct. 8, the team evacuated a total of 10,299-meter square waste from the Ciliwung River in Kampung Melayu of East Jakarta, Manggarai waterways in Central Jakarta, and the West Canal Flood (BKB) near Season City in West Jakarta.
The waste was collected by 200 officers within two days of operation.
“Since last night, the water body management has been standby as instructed,” Efron added.
According to him, the team will be tasked at areas prone to blockage of rubbish in the river starting from last September until the rainy season is over. “For the next several months, the task force will always be ready to evacuate waste,” Efron concluded.
