TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police have revealed the motive behind the stabbing of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto by Syahril Alamsyah alias Abu Rara on Thursday, Oct. 10. According to the police, the culprit was upset since his teacher, Abu Zee, who was the leader of terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) Bekasi, was detained.
"Abu Rara was stressed out, depressed, after knowing that Abu Zee, his leader, was arrested. He finally carried out an amaliyah [terror acts]," said police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo in his office, South Jakarta, Friday, Oct. 11.
Dedi reiterated that Abu Rara told his wife, Fitri Andriana, about his resentment then the couple planned the attack.
"They heard information that there was a helicopter, and people flocked to the square, so they decided to launch an action there," Dedi said. Both of them shared the task.
Abu Rara, he added, would attack anyone who stepped out of the helicopter in the Menes Square, Pandeglang, Banten, which happened to be the Coordinating Minister. His wife, meanwhile, planned to attack police officers.
At present, Abu Rara and Fitria are still under intensive investigation at the National Police Headquarters by the police’s Anti-Terrorism Detachment Squad Densus 88.
Meanwhile, Wiranto is still in medical treatment at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital for two stab wounds in his abdomen due to the attack.
