TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to meet President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the State Palace, Friday afternoon, October 11.
“[Prabowo is] invited by Pak Jokowi at 3 p.m.,” said Prabowo’s spokesman Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak to reporters today.
Dahnil was tight-lipped as to the details the meeting agenda of the two rivals of the 2019 presidential election. Rumors are rife that Gerindra will join the government's coalition.
The party's deputy chairman, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said his party was still mulling over whether it would join the coalition or remain as opposition in Jokowi’s second term.
However, Sufmi added, his party had several prior conditions for the government to meet before it could join the administration. First, Jokowi must appoint the party’s cadres in the sectors of food sovereignty, energy, and economy, which are the party’s focus.
“Or else, [the government] can use the concept. We just want to help the government,” said Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Thursday, October 10.
Gerindra Party secretary-general Ahmad Muzani previously revealed there were offers from some people within Jokowi's circle for Gerindra to join the government.
