TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Financial Technology Permit and Supervision Affairs director at the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Hendrikus Passagi said that as a supervisor and regulator of registered fintech, his agency has no right to draft a regulation. He suggested that financial technology (fintech) operators build communication with the parliament as the legislator.
Hendrikus made the statement in response to fintech operators’ demand regarding the passage of the law on personal data protection and fintech.
“Drafting a regulation is the authority of the government and the House of Representatives (DPR). That is their initiative. So we hope AFPI (Indonesia Fintech Lending Association) can start to establish communication with the government,” said Hendrikus in Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, Thursday, October 10.
As for subjects to be listed in the law, he opined that are what the businessmen understood and acknowledged. “So we believe what they experience in the field, and we fully support their opinions,” Hendrikus added.
He underlined that his side would always back whatever the decision for the sustainability of the digital money business. OJK, he added, would provide the broadest room for businessmen as they know best how to mitigate the business.
Previously, AFPI spokesman Tumbur Pardede urged the passage of the law on personal data and fintech. He opined that the regulation issuance is necessary considering the high growth of the sector.
