TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The PDIP Party faction deputy head at the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Basarah, said that his party was willing to limit the discussion of the amendment of the 1945 Constitution on the reinstatement of State Policy Guidelines (GBHN).
He claimed the amendment would not touch on Article 6A and 7A concerning presidential election and impeachment.
“No relation to the procedure of presidential election and dismissal because the two cannot be revised. PDIP has a clear stance [about this],” said Basarah in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, Oct. 8.
According to PDIP, he went on, reinstating GBHN does not mean that a president can be chosen by the MPR as occurred in the era before the reform. Likewise, the Assembly cannot discharge the president if the GBHN is not implemented.
However, Basarah could not assure yet on how to measure the application of GBHN by the president. He added that the mechanism will be discussed further by the MPR study board led by PDIP.
The previous MPR of the 2014-2019 period previously recommended seven things to the newly-appointed MPR, including the reinstatement of GBHN, the rearrangement of MPR and DPR’s authority, and presidential system.
The issues on the amendment of the 1945 Constitution have become a hot topic since it was first brought up. Several parties assess that the reinstatement of GBHN is no longer relevant to the prevailing presidential system.
