TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) deputy head from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction, Jazilul Fawaid, opines the amendment of the 1945 Constitution must be limited. He rejects the amendment if it is aimed at changing the presidential office period to more than two terms.
“The change [should] not go there, two terms of office are adequate for president and executives,” said Jazilul at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Jazilul says his party agrees on the amendment of the constitution to reinstate the State Policy Guidelines (GBHN). This is also recommended by the previous Assembly.
According to the PKB deputy head, the amendment must be limited to prevent broader discussions. Otherwise, he predicts that many parties want various changes in the constitution.
Meanwhile, MPR NasDem faction head Johnny G. Plate conveys different views, claiming the amendment must be discussed thoroughly and completely.
Johnny deems one of the most vital issues to be addressed is the presidential office term. He says the country’s goal of development consistency is related to the executive’s tenure in office, starting from the president, governor, regent, up to the mayor.
