TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The non-governmental organization or NGO Bung Hatta Anti-corruption has expressed its support for President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to issue a government regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) on the Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK (Perpu KPK).
“Yes, we consider it necessary, and we hope [the Perpu] will be issued,” said the organization head Shanti Poesposoetjipto to Tempo, Tuesday, Oct. 8.
The NGO’s institutional stand is similar to that of 41 figures who met the President on Sept. 26. They, including Natalia Soebagjo who is the founder of the Bung Hatta Award, support the issuance of Perpu KPK.
Shanti affirms that her side would yet revoke the award granted to the President in 2010 when the latter served as Solo Mayor. Previously, Indonesia Corruption Watch suggested the annulment of the award should Joko Widodo refuse to pass Perpu KPK.
Shanti says that she appreciates ICW’s opinion yet she is reluctant to make a rushed decision. The association, she added, would await the final decision made by the President.
“In the meantime, Bung Hatta Anti-corruption Award is still waiting for Pak Jokowi,” she said.
