TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Papuan Police has named 13 individuals as suspects that are suspected to be involved in the deadly riots in the city of Wamena, Papua.
Police spokesman Grand Commissioner Ahmad Mustofa Kamal said that 10 out of the 13 suspects are currently under police detention. The suspects are believed to be responsible for provoking and mobilizing riots.
“Police are hunting for the three remaining fugitives,” said Kamal today.
He says that the suspects are linked to Papuan liberation movements such as the West Papua National Commission (KNPB) and the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP).
Meanwhile, the Indonesian national police’s Grand Commissioner Asep Adi Saputra assured that thousands of police personnel - reportedly up to 6,000- are still in Papua to maintain security and public order in the region.
