TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party secretary-general Ahmad Muzani says a number of attempts have been made by the government in power to persuade his political party, known to be siding against the government.
He claims there are several people in President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s circle that are attempting to entice Gerindra to join the government in Jokowi’s second term in office.
“We did not necessarily accept the offer as we often feel the [the Party and Jokowi] stand at opposite ends,” said Muzani at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex on Monday.
Muzani also explained that Gerindra Party’s Chairman, Prabowo Subianto, has yet taken a decision on whether to establish a coalition with the government or remain as oppositions.
“Prabowo feels that we are a political influence that opposes Jokowi,” he said.
However, Muzani maintains that they will eventually join the government if the order comes from Prabowo Subianto as the Party leader and that it would join only if it coincides with Prabowo’s intentions to establish domestic self-sufficiency.
