Forest Fire Continues to Rage in Riau

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Riau Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD Riau) continues to carry out efforts to extinguish forest and land fires in a number of regions such as the Pelalawan Regncy, Indragiri Hulu Regency, and Siak Regency.

Chief of BPBD Riau Edwar Sanger, said that currently, the forest fire task force continues to work like usual, putting out fires and cooling down temperatures in burnt areas. In some small areas, fires are still going.

"Like the fire in Paya Rumbai Kampung Village, Siberida District, Indragiri Hulu. Task force members there have conducted extinguishing efforts and follow up cooling down for 10 days because the fire and smoke still exists," Edwar said on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

Also in Indragiri Hulu, fire also occurred in Talang Jerinjing Villahe, Rengat Barat District, where members of the task force have been doing efforts to extinguish the fire for 16 days. Meanwhile, in Peranap Inhu District, fire also occurs and members of the task force have been attempting to extinguish the fire for 2 days.

In addition, in Kerumutan District, Pelalawan Regency, two fire locations have been identified at the Kerumutan sub-district and in Mak Teduh village.

Meanwhile, in Siak Regency, fire occurred in Perawang Barat village, Tualang. "The fire there have been extinguished, currently personnel are conducting cooling down," Edwar stated.

Currently, Riau Province is still in forest fire alert status, which has been announced by the Riau Province Government starting from February 19, until October 31, 2019.
