China Dominates Foreign Tourists Visit in Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Statistics Agency (BPS) of Jakarta Province recorded that tourists originating from China are dominating the number of foreign tourists visit in Jakarta as of August 2019. "Total number of foreign tourist visit reaches up to 253,178 people," said Head of BPS Jakarta Buyung Airlangga on Friday, October 4, 2019.

Buyung listed five countries with the largest number of tourists visiting Jakarta on August 2019. The first position is occupied by China with 36,125 tourists, or equals to 14.27 percent, followed by Japan with 22,674 tourists, which equals to 8.96 percent.

The third position is occupied by Malaysia with 20,707 tourists (8.18 percent) followed by Saudi Arabia with 20,104 tourists (7.94 percent), and Singapore with 16,488 tourists (6.51 percent).

"Compared to July 2019, there is a 5.62 percent decrease, from the previous 268,258 tourists," Buyung explained. The total number of tourists from the top five countries constitutes 45.86 percent, or equals to 116,098 tourists of the total number of tourists visits in Jakarta.

As many as 259,964 foreign tourists enter the capital through the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport while the remaining 212 tourists enter from Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport.

The Jakarta Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) recorded the allocation of expenses budget for the tourism sector in the Jakarta 2019 Regional Budget to be at IDR 351.32 billion. Until September 2019, the amount of funds that have been absorbed had reached IDR 190.15 billion, or equals to 54.12 percent of the total allocated budget.
