TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) is has confirmed that it will dismiss Second Police Brigadier Nesti, a female officer at Maluku Utara Regional Police after being exposed to radicalism. Nesti will not receive any counseling following a trial on Police ethics code.
"The examination is intended to immediately conduct a trial at the ethics code commission and it will provided a recommendation for dishonored dismissal," said Chief of Public Information of the Indonesian National Police Headquarter Sr. Comr. Asep Adi Saputra on Friday, October 4, 2019.
Nesti was previously arrested by the Special Counter-Terrorism Detachment 88 (Densus 88) in Solo on October 2, 2019. Nesti is suspected to have affiliations with a terrorism network. Asep said that Nesti is suspected to be involved with a terrorist network led by Wawan Wicaksono, who was arrested in Salatiga, Central Java on October 2, 2019.
The arrest is the second occurrence for Nesti. Nesti had previously been arrested by the East Java Police in Surabaya for leaving her duties and using fake identification to catch a flight from Ternate to Surabaya. She was later returned back to the Maluku Utara Regional Police to receive counseling.
"Howver, after the counseling, she was immediately exposed [to radicalism]," Asep said while confirming that Densus 88 is currently investigating Nesti.
"We are still investigating if she has affiliation with terrorist network in the country, including if she has spread [radicalism] in the Police," Asep said.
