TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The R80 aircraft developed by B.J. Habibie has been listed as one of the three National Strategic Projects (PSN) managed by the Committee for the Acceleration of Priority Infrastructure Provision (KPPIP).
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said one of the PSN programs is related to the airplane.
"The second program is an airplane. One project will be developed by Industry Ministry, and the other project by the late Pak Habibie,” said Darmin in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 2.
The turboprop aircraft project developed by the former President was reportedly resumed by state aviation company Regio Aviasi Industri (RAI), a company established by the third Indonesian President in 2012.
As quoted from the RAI official website, R80 aircraft has 90 seat capacity. Developed with a combination of sophisticated design structure and highly-efficient machine, the airplane’s operational cost is considered low.
Based on the KPPIP data, the airplane construction would require Rp6.75 trillion.
Other than by State Budget, the program is expected to be funded by State-owned Enterprises and private parties, as well as crowdfunding which will be carried out by diaspora communities. The project is targeted to kick off in 2023.
