TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang P.S. Brodjonegoro said the competition in search of Indonesia’s new capital city design is the government’s attempt to increase public participation.
“We yearn for public participation and attract Indonesia’s best talents in the field of urban city planning. We will later choose the best that will be made into the official masterplan,” said Bambang Central Jakarta on Thursday, October 1.
Despite hosting a public competition, Bambang said the government has already created a basis upon the new capital’s construction.
The former finance minister said this competition will likely be followed by another one that will compete for the designs of the infrastructures that will be built on the new location Kalimantan.
Three key elements will be looked at in the designs, such as elements of national identity; environmental, social, and economic sustainability; and establishing a city that is smart, modern, and with international standards.
The capital city design competition officially kicks off today on Thursday, October 3, and the design submissions will be closed on December 27, 2019. The public can access sayembaraikn.pu.go.id. to join the competition. Winners will see their design applied and win a prize up to Rp2 billion.
