ICW: Jokowi Fed with False Narratives Regarding KPK, Investment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher of law and court trial monitoring, Donal Fariz, says that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is being fed with false information regarding the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) by his circle of people.

He argues, the narrative of the KPK hampering investments as one of the false pretenses the president received.

“That viewpoint is being fed to the President with a collection of data that is structured, which is aimed to lead the president astray,” said Donal today, October 2, in a public discussion held by the ICW on the urgency to annul the passed KPK Law revision.

He believes that the rumor that KPK hampers investors is indeed false since a large number of domestic economists have fought against that narrative. Donal asserts that many investors are thinking twice before investing in Indonesia after they were informed that the KPK’s authority is being curbed.

“It’s no wonder that 33 Chinese companies have set foot from Indonesia, with roughly 20 of them ending up in Vietnam. None of it landed here because of the legal uncertainty,” the Indonesia Corruption Watch researcher said.
