Women's Group Puts Hope on New House Members

1 October 2019 21:40 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the national commission on violence against women (Komnas Perempuan) Azriana openly aspires for the new members of the House of Representatives (DPR) to include the draft bill on sexual violence (RUU PKS) in the 2020 national legislation program.

“We surely must rebuild an effective and contributive communication with the new members of the House,” said Azriana on Tuesday, October 1.

After stagnancy at the House’s Commission VIII for three years, Azriana hopes that the RUU PKS will not be limited to one House Commission in the upcoming term. She also urges for a special committee to be formed to handle the draft bill.

By doing so, she expects that the draft bill will be able to be formulated by other commissions such as the Commission of Law and Human Rights.

“It would be a mistake to consider only Commission VIII is exclusively authorized to handle this draft bill. This is a cross-commission matter that is related to health, education, among many more issues,” said the Head of the Komnas Perempuan.
