TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara confirms that the draft bill on protection of personal data is set to be discussed by the new-term 2019 - 2024 House of Representatives (DPR) Legislators who were inaugurated earlier today.
“Following today’s inauguration, hopefully, the new House members [will discuss it]. I personally have signed the draft twice,” said Minister Rudiantara on Tuesday, October 1.
He says the draft bill was faced with non-substantial challenges in its making as it had to be adjusted to existing Laws. The draft had been discussed in the previous term of the House of Representatives and he believes it will not divert from the previous version.
This issue was mentioned by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo who asserts that regulation regarding personal data protection must be made.
“The regulation must be prepared, there is no compromising,” said President Jokowi at the parliamentary complex in mid-August.
At the time, the President said that technological improvements have created new challenges and would need to see new Laws written to overcome it.
