Puan Maharani Resigns from Office, Becomes House Member

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The new bevy of legislators for the House of Representatives (DPR) 2019-2024 term has been officially inaugurated on Tuesday, October 1. Out of the 575 members, one name stands out, as the Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Puan Maharani.
Sources from within the State Palace said that prior to her inauguration as a member of the House, Puan had handed over her resignation letter to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“The letter has been accepted and the presidential decree (Keppres) upon her resignation has been ratified by the President,” said the source.
Adhering to the Law, members of the House of Representatives (DPR), the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Regional Legislative Council (DPD and DPRD) are barred from taking more than one position as a state employee.
Prior to Puan’s resignation, Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly also resigned from office after he was elected as the future term of House of Representatives.
