TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned toll operator PT Jasa Marga spokesperson Irra Susiyanti stated that her staffers immediately conducted a clean-up activity in the city's inner ring road after the massive demonstrations held around the Parliament Building and Palmerah on Monday, September 30.
“After we make sure that the road is safe, and due to police discretion at 04:35 a.m., we can reopen the inner-city turnpike from Cawang to Slipi,” said Irra in a written statement, Tuesday, October 1.
The opposite direction has also been reopened at 04:40 a.m. Irra said that as of 05:00 a.m., people are allowed to pass Cawang-Slipi toll road.
“We appeal to road users to remain vigilant. Get information about Jasa Marga toll road through the 24-hour call center at 14080,” Irra explained.
During the past few days, a wave of protests occurred in several regions. On September 23-24, university students and activists staged a rally against the Criminal Code draft bill and revisions of KPK Law that ended in chaos with security officers.
The rally on Wednesday, September 25, held by high school students also led to riot until midnight. The mass attacked the police during the protest in response to a call two days after university students’ protest.
On September 30, the mass took to Jakarta streets again, especially around the Parliament Building. They reportedly would hold another demonstration during the inauguration of the new elected DPR members today, October 1.
