Death Toll Rises Following Thursday's Earthquake in Ambon

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A magnitude 6.8-earthquake hitting the region of Maluku on Thursday, September 26, proved to be fatal after the death toll climbed to 24 on Friday, September 27.
National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) public information head Agus Wibowo says that Central Maluku recorded 14 deaths while Ambon saw six casualties, so as West Seram, increasing the death toll to 24.
“The death toll comes from Central Maluku and the city of Ambon,” said Agus on Friday.
The Maluku regional disaster mitigation agency reported nearly 100 people injured which mainly comes from the Village of Liang.
The injured are currently hospitalized at a number of hospitals in the City of Ambon while 15,000 people are taking refuge after the quake caused tremendous damages to residential areas in the region.
