5 Things Drivers Need to Do When Facing Street Protest

26 September 2019 13:50 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Numerous mass street protests have taken place in the vicinity of the House of Representatives (DPR) headquarters with college students and high school students taking it to the streets to reject the troubling revision Draft Bills.

This condition almost certainly will cause severe traffic jams across Jakarta streets that head to the protest’s core area.

Here are 5 tips on how to face a situation where you are stuck in your vehicle amidst a massive street protest as quoted from Auto2000.co.id.

  1. Keep your emotions under control

Driving a vehicle amidst a demonstration will likely push you to frustration. However, always remind yourself to keep your emotions in check and not be tense when operating your vehicle during the situation.

  1. Constantly monitor news updates

Before venturing on a journey, always take time to monitor the situation from online sources of the route you are about to take. Credible websites will inform you of the elements that might hamper your journey.

  1. Use digital maps

Digital map mobile applications can always be counted on in venturing a journey as it notifies you on certain situations in real-time. Always improvise by not sticking to main roads and explore alternative routes.

  1. Pack the essential snacks and beverages

Bringing with you light snacks and enough water supply may highly help you live through bumper-to-bumper traffic jams caused by demonstrations.

  1. Never panic

In case you pick the wrong route and find yourself entering a street that is packed by protesters, roll-up your windows tight and make sure you have all the doors locked. Place valuable items in luggage compartments or places that are not visible from outside.

Never be easily triggered in situations like this and share your location to family members so that you can be monitored by them in case of the worst happening to you. Do not show a tense face or carelessness to avoid being subject to criminal activities.
