TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Flight activities at the Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru gradually returned normal following the land and forest fire haze that disrupted dozens of commercial flights one day prior due to drastic drop in visibility levels.
The airport’s Executive General Manager, Yogi Prasetyo said today that the visibility has improved today which did not disrupt flights departing and landing at the airport.
“The visibility as of September 24 [09:00 western Indonesia time] is more than 800-meters,” said Yogi Prasetyo today.
33 flights at this airport were forced to be canceled on Monday after the haze caused visibility to drastically drop and potentially endangered commercial flights.
As of today, he reports that there were seven airplanes that took off from the airport without encountering any significant problems as visibility level reached 2.5 kilometers.
