Student Protest in Jayapura;Police Barricade Road Near University

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police closed the Abepura-Padang Bulan Road in Abepura district of Jayapura, Papua, Monday morning September 23. The street is blocked following a student protests by at the Cenderawasih University campus in Abepura.
The police parked a number of security trucks and cars, blocking enty to civilian vehicles for the time being.
Security forces from the Jayapura City Police Station, assisted by Brimob BKO Nusantara, could be on standby in front of the Uncen Abepura campus. There were also seen police personnel negotiating with a group of students who were occupying the University campus.
Meanwhile, the area along the Abepura-Padang Bulan Highway to the Mako Baraq Kotaraja seemed deserted.
Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tommy Mano and Papuan Regional Police Chief Brig. Gen. Yakobus Marjuki were seen monitoring the situation around Abepura.
A number of government and private offices also looked quiet, with only a few residents visiting the shopping centers.
