TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is in the process of tracing assets belonging to former Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi. The asset tracing process is conducted in relation to the investigation of the recent bribery case that involves Imam as the suspect.
"After the investigation process have been conducted, the asset tracing team will track down [the assets]," said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah on Friday, September 20, 2019.
Febri said that the asset tracing is conducted to map Imam's assets suspected to be obtained from corruption. Febri stated that asset tracing is normally conducted to maximize the state's financial return.
Nevertheless, Febri is currently unable to explain the results of the asset tracing process. "I cannot mentioned in specifics because it is part of the process," Febri explained.
Previously, Chief of the KPK determined Imam and his personal assistant Miftahul Ulum as suspected in a bribery case at the Youth and Sports Ministry. Deputy Chief of the KPK Alexander Marwata said that the KPK suspected that during the period of 2014 to 2018, Ulum had received IDR 14.7 billion. In addition, Imam is also suspected to receive IDR 11.8 billion during the 2016 to 2018 period. Therefore, the total amount of money received by Imam had reached IDR 26.5 billion.
Alex asserted that part of the money was received in relation to the disbursement of grant funds from the National Sports Committee for the 2018 fiscal year. In addition, parts of the money was received by Imam for his role as Chief of Steering Committee of the Indonesia Emas Program Task Force and his other positions in the Ministry.
"The money is suspected to be used for private needs and other interests," Alex said.
Imam Nahrawi denied of having received the money. "I am not like what they had accused me, we will follow [the process] at court," Imam said on Wednesday, September 18, 2019.
