TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Environment and Forestry Ministry has sealed off 42 lands owned by corporate and one land owned by individual regarding the prevention and control of land and forest fire in several areas in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

"We've sealed off [the lands] to prevent the possible forest and land fire," said Director-General of the ministry's law enforcement Rasio Ridho Sani in a press conference at Graha BNPB Jakarta, Saturday, September 14.

The lands are located in Jambi, Riau, South Sumatra Selatan, West Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan. The ministry will further conduct an investigation to all the lands owned by corporates and individual.

At present, four companies are named as suspects, namely PT ABP, PT AER, and PT SKM in West Kalimantan, and PT KS in Central Kalimantan, he stated.

These companies are facing permit revocation, or have to pay compensation and restoration of the burned land in a civil lawsuit, until imprisonment, pay a fine, and profit-taking in the criminal suit.

Rasio said his side has revoked the permit of three firms in wildfire cases in 2015, while 17 corporates were charged in civil lawsuits to pay a total compensation of Rp3.15 trillion since 2015.
