TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A group of college students backing the revisions of the Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK Law No. 30/2002 turned violent at the KPK building.
The mob, dubbing themselves as the College Students Alliance Supporting the KPK, was initially only orating before the KPK buiding. “The draft revisions of the KPK Law are for common goods,” shouted one of the mob coordinators, Friday, September 13.
The man then instructed the mob to burn several floral bouquets placed in front of the building. He also encouraged them to take down the black cloth covering the KPK logo inside the building.
The black cloth was deliberately put there as a symbol of gloom and mourning as the anti-graft body was dying.
When security personnel refused to take down the cover, the mob ran toward the building and attempted to break the gate. KPK security team tried to cool off the mass. However, a physical clash then broke out between the mass and the security personnel.
Based on Tempo's observation, several journalists were attacked by the mob that also hurled rocks and other objects at the KPK building.
