TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The action movie Gundala received positive responses from audiences during its screening at the Toronto International Film Festival 2019 on Thursday, September 12. Film director Joko Anwar shared the ambiance before the screening through his Instagram account.
His short video displayed a line of people. “A queuing line for Gundala in Toronto, an hour before the screening. Thirty minutes after, the line snaked to the other road,” said Joko Anwar in his post caption.
He also posted the screening studio for his movie, which was adapted from a comic by Harya Suraminata or Hasmi. The studio seats were seen fully packed.
“Gundala screening in Toronto is a success. Many people favor and grasp the film’s story and subtext. [They] can’t wait for the next film! Now the cinematic universe of Bumilangit belongs to everyone, not only Indonesians,” said the man, who is also the director of the famous horror film Pengabdi Setan.
Joko Anwar also showed audiences’ reaction about the movie, including from Yusuf As-Siddiq. “I’m so proud that Indonesia also has its own MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) which is BCU 'Bumilangit Cinematic Universe'," said Yusuf. “The first movie is Gundala. I hope the film can be screened at American theaters.”
